Lowcountry Local First along with the Coastal Conservation League and others envisions a strong regional food system incorporating a diversity of rural farms and a robust urban farming component that preserves ecosystems.

Coastal Conservation League Sustainable Agriculture 
Since the Fall of 2007 the Conservation League has been working with Lowcountry Local First, a local chapter of the national organization, Business Alliance for Local Living Economies, to create a sustainable agriculture program in the Lowcountry. The two organizations are working together on a broad, long-term initiative which will address the need for such changes as increased ease of distribution of local and regional products, improved local meat processing, and year-round availability of regional farmers markets.

Institute for Local Self-Reliance -- New Rules Project, Local Food 
A growing number of farmers are selling their products directly to consumers. Expanding local markets for agricultural products connects producers with eaters and increases farmers' incomes by eliminating the middleperson. Food and dollars stay in town, transportation costs are minimized, and a connection between farmers and the community is fostered.
