FiveThirtyEight Blog -- During the 2008 elections, statistician Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight was an independent blog. Silver correctly predicted the winner using his own methodology focused on the 538 votes in the Electoral College (more about that later) votes, and he earned himself a spot at the New York Times.
