Southern Bell Building

Southern Bell Building

Some modern buildings incorporate specific decorative or structural elements from historic structures. The side of the Southern Bell building (top photo) features window detailing and other proportional features of the landmark 1822 Fireproof Building by Robert Mills (bottom photo). It also makes use of ground floor arches which recall those used in Mills' building; however Mills placed his ground-level arches on the front and rear, not on the sides. Next page of this essay
