The explosive growth of the College of Charleston over the past twenty-five years, from a student body numbered in the hundreds to one now approaching ten thousand, has expanded its campus toward Harleston Village on the west and Radcliffeborough on the north. Founded in a residential area over two hundred years ago, its campus has always incorporated many rehabilitated historic homes. But architects now face the challenge of relating modern institutional buildings to residential streetscapes. This treatment of the science building main entranceway is one such attempt.
