The Charleston County Public Library possesses a large number of books, maps, manuscripts and images covering a wide variety of local history and genealogical topics. 

The South Carolina Room houses a non-circulating collection of books, maps, microfilm, and other research materials.

The Charleston Archive houses unique manuscripts and images, as well as rare books and other print materials.

The Charleston Time Machine is an imaginary time-travel device created by Dr. Nic Butler, CCPL historian. It uses stories and facts from the rich, deep, colorful history of Charleston, South Carolina, as a means to educate, inspire, amuse and even amaze the minds of our community. By exploring the stories of our shared past, we can better understand our present world and plan more effectively for the future.
