HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST - ADMINISTRATION SERVICES - MAIN LIBRARY: Full time position. Reports to the HR Manager. Coordinates human resources activities for the library system such as employment, recordkeeping, compensation benefits and employee relations. Serves as consultant to administration and management staff on human resources management; maintains compliance with state and federal laws and approved library policies. Responsible for providing staff assistance and instruction to supervisors and branch/department heads regarding interpreting and carrying out library's policies and procedures; counsel staff supervisors on HR related issues and/or problems. Serves as recruitment and employment coordinator for the library; coordinates employment process including recruiting, advertising vacancies, receiving and screening applications, interviews, selection and hiring, reference checks, drug screening and new hire physicals. Confers with the Human Resources Manager, managers/supervisors for approval of new hires, promotions, lateral transfers, demotions and terminations. Provides assistance to the public and employees regarding vacancies and employment application status. Ensures accurate and timely payroll records and information are submitted to the Finance Office. Oversee records, documents and information pertaining to employee's leave and attendance, compliance with regard to procedures for annual and sick leave. Monitors appropriate disciplinary and grievance procedures; participates as appropriate in disciplinary procedures; coordinates and participates as required in grievance procedures. Coordinates process of annual performance evaluations for all employees, including new hire interim three (3) month and probationary six (6) month evaluations. Other duties as assigned. Must have stamina for walking, standing, prolonged sitting, reaching, bending, stooping and kneeling. A valid South Carolina driver's license with a safe driving record. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of Human Resource administration; basic statistical and record keeping processes. Ability to conduct interviews and to secure complete and adequate information; to provide Human Resources policy interpretation to staff as needed; ability to relate and maintain strict confidentiality and sensitivity to all employees; to work tactfully and effectively with employees, the general public and officials. Ability to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain departmental operations. Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Suite. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Ability to work as part of a team and to carry out assignments independently. Bilingual - English/Spanish a plus. TRAINER AND DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST - ADMINISTRATION SERVICES - MAIN LIBRARY:
Full time position. Reporting to the HR Manager. This position coordinates and supervises all training activities to include the development of new employee orientation, conduct needs assessment to determine whether a training development need exists, analyze, determine, and design training needs of library staff for several locations; formulate and develop plans, procedures, select programs and conduct training to meet specific training needs. Communicate to staff training programs offered; evaluate and analyze the results of training; keep abreast of trends and changes within the library environment. Develop and construct training manuals and training aids; coordinate participation of external training programs for library staff. Other duties as assigned. Must have stamina for walking, standing, prolonged sitting, reaching, bending, stooping and kneeling. A valid South Carolina driver's license with a safe driving record. MAIN LIBRARY MANAGER: Full time position. CCPL is looking for a forward thinking, energetic and motivated leader with a passion for building a team that provides exceptional customer experiences for our library users. The ideal candidate will have proven success in developing and implementing programs and services to support and enhance the Library's goals and objectives. The Main Library manager is responsible for our largest library facility, located in beautiful historic downtown Charleston, and will participate in guiding the renovation of the Main Library; including migration to RFID self-check and automated material handling. This position will lead and manage nine department managers of Adult Services, Children's Department, South Carolina Room, Tech Team, Young Adult Services, Circulation, Bookmobile Services and Historian. The manager will oversee Adult Services, Young Adult Services and Circulation Services' system wide monthly meetings to help communicate, analyze, plan, modify and implement new system wide policies and procedures. Requirements: ALA accredited MLS degree with six (6) years of professional public library experience, with 3 years of management/administrative experience; eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library certification; well-developed communication skills; ability to plan and coordinate the work of others; a valid South Carolina driver's license with a safe driving record. LIBRARY COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNICAL SERVICES MANAGER
Full time position. CCPL is looking for a forward thinking, enthusiastic manager to lead our Collection Development and Technical Services Department, LCATS, and to provide our customers with a collection that fulfills the need of the community using library techniques and technologies that allow us to operate in the most efficient manner. Three library opening day collection projects are currently underway, with two more projected to come online in 2017, with renovations to 13 other locations. CCPL is migrating to RFID self-check and automated materials handling, headquartered at new Support Services building, so this position will also oversee work flow strategies and improvements in processing. The LCATS manager performs complex and administrative work planning, selecting, evaluating and maintaining all library materials' collections. Under the supervision of the Deputy Director for Library Services, this position is responsible for system-wide selection and acquisition and oversight of cataloging, processing and display of all print, audio-visual and electronic materials. Other duties as assigned.  REQUIREMENTS: ALA accredited Master of Library Science degree with six (6) years post master's professional public library experience with three (3) years of management/ administrative experience. Well-developed communication skills; ability to plan and coordinate the work of others. Must have the stamina for periods of sitting, standing and walking. Eligible for or hold South Carolina State Library certification; a valid South Carolina driver's license with a safe driving record. LIBRARIAN II - LCATS - MAIN LIBRARY: Under general direction, the Collection Development Librarian will evaluate, select, and maintain various library collections in multiple formats and age ranges, including five Opening Day Collections for new buildings.
Essential Position Functions:
• Identify library material for purchase and monitor demand
• Track materials budget expenditures and anticipate budget needs
• Participate in weeding schedules, special weeding projects, and staff training
• Meet with vendor representatives to review products, services, and give feedback
• Perform copy cataloging and database maintenance for catalog consistency and accuracy
• Analyze collection needs and redistribute material
• Maintain effective proficiency using vendor websites and platforms, the SirsiDynix Symphony ILS, CollectionHQ, and other software tools
• Collaborate with library staff to design and implement displays and merchandizing improvements of library material
• Assist the Collections Manager with reports, interdepartmental collaboration, committee service, and updates/improvements to department procedures and collection guidelines
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited school
• One year of collection development experience in a library
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading and editing
• Ability to complete tasks with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and online ordering
Physical requirements:
• Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift and move boxes up to 35 pounds and push loaded book trucks
• Ability to perform repetitive motions such as opening AV cases
• Ability to bend, reach, shelve and shift material, and pack/unpack boxes and bins

LIBRARIAN I - CCPL TECH TEAM - TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST - MAIN LIBRARYFull-time position. Performs a variety of library functions under professional supervision. Responsible for training staff and the general public in the use of technology, including software, online tools, and mobile devices, during classes, programs, and public computer sessions. Assistance may be provided in person, by phone, or by email. Duties include developing training materials, conducting staff and public training sessions at Main and the branches, maintaining staff training records, assisting with scheduling, and performing other administrative tasks. Other duties as assigned. Evening and weekend work included. REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree preferred with previous experience in a public library OR related teaching experience and excellent computer skills. Must be extremely knowledgeable of Windows and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and comfortable with emerging technologies. Strong communication skills are essential. Ability to teach others, including patrons of different ages, and the capacity to exercise initiative, good judgment, accuracy, and tact when providing assistance. Ability to work as part of a team, but also to carry out assignments independently. Must be flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed for departmental operation. LIBRARY ASSISTANT V - REFERENCE SERVICES - MT. PLEASANT REGIONAL LIBRARY: Full-time position. Provide reader's advisory and information services to patrons of all ages at the Reference Services desk; with guidance from reference librarians, plan and provide in-house programs for adults on a variety of subjects and contribute to outreach to the adult population in the community; maintain assigned shelving area by processing new books, shelf reading, and weeding; prepare forms, flyers, and reports; may write branch newspaper column and/or branch blog about library services; other duties as assigned. Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in various computer software and applications; MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher, and social media experience a plus. Other qualities and abilities needed: initiative; accuracy; tact; ability to exercise good judgment; ability to get along well with others in a professional and approachable manner; high aptitude for library work; significant ability to be flexible and adaptable to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain branch operations. LIBRARY ASSISTANT III - REFERENCE SERVICES - OTRANTO ROAD REGIONAL LIBRARY
: Full time position. Under the supervision of the Reference Services Manager, responsible for providing reader's advisory/reference and information services at the reference desk and via telephone, including recording daily reference statistics. Responsibilities also include assisting References Services with: collection maintenance; planning and implementing in-branch and outreach programming; providing tours and bibliographic instruction of library services; providing technology instruction and demonstrations, serving as Branch liaison to Tech Team Committee and responsible for sharing technological development/trends with cluster branches; may provide newsworthy information to community news outlets. Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in various computer software and applications i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, social media experience and the ability to learn and use new methods, policies and technological advancements as needed. Must also be flexible to assume additional responsibilities and scheduling requirements as needed for maintaining branch operation to meet coverage needs of the public service desks. LIBRARY ASSISTANT III - CIRCULATION SUPERVISOR - JOHN L. DART LIBRARY:
Full-time position. Provides general circulation services, including registering new borrowers, updating patron records, placing holds, checking in and out library materials, renewing materials, taking reserves, locating materials, issuing library cards, using automated SIRSI library system; assists patrons with basic informational and directional requests, assists patrons in use of public terminals, copiers, and other equipment. Interprets and communicates general library policies and procedures to patrons and employees. Assist patrons with use of print reference resources, with identifying and locating library materials using the library system catalog, with searching the Internet, and with using online databases. May supervise and train shelvers and oversee priorities within shelving activities; may supervise, evaluate and train subordinate staff. Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in various computer software; Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher a plus. Must have the ability to get along well with others in a teamwork environment and to communicate pleasantly and effectively with the general public and library staff. Must be detail-oriented and flexible to assume additional responsibilities as needed to maintain departmental/branch operation. Other duties as assigned. Bilingual - English/Spanish a plus. Must have the stamina for periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending, kneeling and stooping. Must be able to lift book crates weighing up to approximately fifty (50) pounds and/or push book carts weighing up to approximately one hundred (100) pounds. REQUIREMENTS: High School graduate with one (1) to two (2) years of experience in a public library, including supervisory experience. High aptitude for library work; initiative; resourcefulness; good judgment; orderliness; accuracy; tact; adaptability; excellent customer service skills; and a strong work ethic.
