    • Abstract:
An essay is presented that draws on the essay "The Mirror Stage as Formative to the Function of the I as Revealed in Psychoanalytic Experience," by Jacques Lacan to show the significance of the recurring mirror-as-symbol in the short fiction of short story writer Katherine Mansfield. Topics covered include the concepts of fragmentation, dreams, and the Ideal-I, the short story "The Tiredness of Rosabel," by Mansfield, and Mansfield's writing about poor, young women.
