      The article presents information on the developments related to the Earthwatch Institute in the year 2005. In the year 2005, more than 160 projects in 50 countries around the world and 18 U.S. states were sponsored by the organization. The organization distributed $6.7 million in field grants to support 294 scientists for making scientific field research. The organization supports monitoring studies that focus on measuring human impacts on the environment. In 2005, 4,190 volunteers from 79 countries and all 50 U.S. states contributed more than 300,000 hours of data collection and analysis, making Earthwatch, the world's largest global volunteer organization supporting essential fieldwork.
