- Abstract: The article provides insight into the military romance genre featuring U.S. Navy Sea, Air and Land (SEAL) forces and suggests reasons for its popularity. Topics discussed are the use of male action heroes as representations of hegemonic masculinity, evolution of the military romance phenomenon, the psychological satisfaction for readers and women's empowerment in romance fiction, readers' interest in a rugged workingman ideal, military's prestige and depiction of comraderie among warriors.
