Is there an app for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten tracking?  

Yes! In the app store on your device, search for and install the “READsquared” app. If you already registered for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten on a computer, just sign in and start logging. Or select Register.  

When you are ready to begin logging, tap the pencil icon. You can enter the title and author of each book you log. Your logging will be tracked whether you use the website or the app. 


What is 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten?

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a nationwide challenge to read, you guessed it, 1,000 books with your little one before they start kindergarten. The Library’s special program for you and your kiddo(s) is an easy way to get your child ready to learn and read by sharing books together and earning fun prizes along the way!


When can I enroll my child in 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten?

Birth! It’s never too early to start reading and talking to your child. 


How can I enroll in 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten?  

You can enroll by setting up an account for your child online. (Please note: you’ll be directed to our partner website, READsquared, which helps us keep track of your books.) 

  • Click Register 

  • Choose I’m registering an individual or I’m creating a family account 

  • Select the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program 

  • Enter the information for your kiddo. 

If you are creating a family account, after you enroll one child, you have the option of adding an additional child (or two, or three, or more!) to your account. 


How do I log books for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten?  

Once you have your account set up, you can log in and begin recording the books you’ve read together. There are three options: 

  1. Visit your favorite CCPL location to pick up a fun reading log for you and your little one to color in together. Pick up a new reading log and milestone sticker each time you finish 100 books.  

  2. Log into READsquared to keep track of your titles and/or number of books. 

    • Click Log Reading in the top, middle section of your dashboard. 

      • Type the title and/or author (suggestions will pop up to help you). Click Submit when finished.  

      • Or, if keeping track of titles isn’t your thing, simply select the date of your reading activity and click Submit.   

  3. Use the app! In the app store on your device, search for and install the “READsquared” app. If you are already registered for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten on a computer, just sign in and start logging. Or select Register. When you are ready to begin logging, tap the pencil symbol and type the title and/or author, if desired. 


Can we read the same book multiple times?  

Absolutely! If your child has a favorite book, feel free to count it every time you read it together. 


Do books read at Library Storytime (virtual or in-person) count toward 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten?

How do prizes work for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten?  

  • Every 100 Books: Pick up a new reading log and milestone sticker. Add a milestone sticker to your library’s Super Reader mural.  

  • 1,000 Books: Choose a FREE book for you and your child to enjoy together. Receive a certificate and have your child’s picture taken to appear on CCPL’s social media.
