      The article discusses scholarship in the field of the history of lynching and mob violence in the U.S. The author discusses the work of scholar Michael J. Pfeifer, the significance of studying the history of lynching and mob violence in the U.S. after 1930, and the 2000 traveling exhibit "Without Sanctuary: Lynching Photography in America." The article also discusses the expansion of studying lynching and violence that took place in the U.S. West and the spread of the word lynching in other languages.
