The article discusses SurveyLA, a citywide historic resources survey conducted by Los Angeles, California and funded by the Getty Foundation under the supervision of the Office of Historic Resources. The surveys, which cover the period of 1850-1980, offer several technological innovations that can be used by other cities to conduct their own historic resources surveys such as the public outreach and participation program. Also discussed is the survey's value on urban and neighborhood planning.
