    • Abstract:
Reviews the animated film, "The Triplets of Belleville," a Canadian co-production with France and Belgium which premiered in Cannes last May and was written and directed by Sylvain Chomet, a French-born animator who made the film while living in Montreal. It was designed by Evgeni Tomov, a Moscow art teacher who defected in the late 1980s by hopping a fence in Newfoundland during a refuelling stop on a holiday flight to Cuba. And the music was composed by Benoit Charest, a Quebec musician whose influences range from Django Reinhart to Frank Zappa, and whose instruments include a fridge rack and a vacuum cleaner.
