      The article reports on the Active Teaching and Learning Approaches in Schools (ATLAS) workshop in Colombo, Sri Lanka aimed at improving the quality of teaching and learning in Sri Lanka launched by the International Literacy Association (ILA), Child Fund Sri Lanka and the country's Ministry of Education. Topics covered include training of 60 inservice advisors (ISAs), tensions between the Sinhalese majority and the Tamil minority, and the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam.
