    • Abstract:
This article presents an appraisal of the U.S. foreign policy in relation to colonialism, with specific reference to Latin American states and a voting in the United Nations on the issue of colonialism. In accordance with the view that the U.S.' Western European allies must be buttressed at all costs, the U.S. delegation voted against all attempts to weaken the colonial powers. The analysis of voting breakdown of several states of Latin America over the colonial issue of Cyprus, Algeria and West New Guinea in the United Nations, shows that the more advanced and enlightened a Latin American state, the more certain it is to oppose United States policy. If the mirror of Latin America is the mirror of the world, the U.S. has gone a long way down a bitter road in a very short time.
