      In this article the authors make the case for gathering funding to prepare for, prevent, and mitigate the impact of pandemics and other disasters that may occur in the U.S. They assert that public health initiatives continue to operate with limited resources despite the continued repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Other topics include criticism of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the relationship between science and social values, and the state of CDC-funded centers in the U.S.
