      The article focuses on the author's perspective on the importance and signifance of Henry Adam's book entitled "The Education of Henry Adams." The well known chapter dedicated to the Dynamo and the Virgin is one of the most anthologized works of American literature. What distinguishes the book from other American texts of the same period is Adams' treatment of the complex relationship between technologies and societies. The article describes and evaluates the uses Adams makes of one such an invention, electricity, with regard to the uses of the past and the role of the intellectual amid the ongoing transformation of the world.
