    • Abstract:
The article discusses the role of American actor and director Charlie Chaplin in Czechoslovakia during the Cold War. The author explains that while other Hollywood actors and actresses were seen in Czechoslovakia as tools of high-powered bankers, Chaplin's 1947 film "Monsieur Verdoux" was important for the propaganda intentions of Czechoslovak Communists. Chaplin's social and political commentary in the film are talked about. The article also discusses the way the country interpreted Chaplin's star persona and his off-screen life to suit their Communist agenda.
