Gold was one of the main interests of the Spanish in their conquest campaigns in American territory. After military rule, civil and ecclesiastical authorities implemented measures to continue and justify the looting. Various strategies were designed by the Indians to prevent the pillaging of sacred sites. In the end, it was obvious tension between the survival of indigenous religious practices and politics of repression and censorship imposed by the Crown and the Church. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
    • Abstract:
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
