The article discusses political developments at the state level in the U.S. that the author believes bode well for Democrats generally, and specifically for the 2012 elections. In Wisconsin Democrats were successful in recall efforts against two Republican state senators while defending four of their own legislators against recalls. In the author's view, events in Wisconsin prompted Ohio Governor John Kasich to seek Democratic support for rewriting a measure that limited collective bargaining rights. It is observed that considerable support for Democratic ideas has materialized in rural areas of the U.S.
