      The article presents a comparative study of scholarship and academia in the Third World. The article critically examines academic values in several Third World countries including Mexico, South Africa, and Malaysia. The article also profiles academics in Argentina and Mainland China. It also discusses the results of an empirical survey that endeavored to reveal the extent to which the working environments of professional academics in the Third World correspond to their collective value system. The article examines what the authors describe as the concept of the fulfilling profession and its values.
