    • Abstract:
The article discusses the Cradle of Humankind, an area of limestone caves in South Africa where fossils of hominid species including Homo sapiens, Homo erectus, and Australopithecus africanus have been found. Anatomist Raymond Dart's discovery of the Taung Child in 1924 caused scientists to study the evolution of humans in Africa. Other topics include research by paleoanthropologist Travis Pickering on tool making, the discovery of Australopithecus sediba, and tours of the Swartkrans cave.
