    • Abstract:
The article presents information about the armed forces of Uruguay and Argentina during the 1970s. The National Security Doctrine was responsible for the view of the world held by the Latin American armed forces during the period. The doctrine defined the nature of both threats and enemies, and also provided countermeasures to deal with them. In Argentina, thousands of people were killed by the military juntas during the 1970s. In Uruguay, the twelve years of military rule became traumatic for its inhabitants.
