The article focuses on the featuring of stories about the Lakota people including the creation of the Lakota people, the introduction of horse culture and the origin of the drum at the 2019 Young readers one book south Dakota festival. Topics include challenges faced by writer Donald F. Montileaux to translate oral storytelling to a children's book, meeting with Alex White Plume which started the process through which the event took place, and collection of books about Lakota at the festival.
