      The article considers the U.S. savings rate economic indicator. Research conducted by the Bureau of Economic Analysis indicating that the savings rate among consumers declined to 3.5 percent in October, 2011 is examined, particularly the implications for marketers of increased consumer spending. Regional variations in consumer behavior indicated by the publication's own research is discussed.
