    • Abstract:
The article describes changes in trends in the American consumer market as of December 1997. Consumers have become more discriminating concerning product quality and have become more willing to try new products. Distribution channels have acquired a more important role in retailing. There is a resurgence of small outlets offering personal service and higher quality of products. Shopping through television, the Internet and wireless equipment is expected to increase. Consumers attach more emotional elements to their purchasing decisions. They also still prefer products with good brands.
