A Primary Prevention Approach to the Opioid Epidemic.

The authors discusses approaches to preventing the abuse of opioid drugs, or opioid use disorder (OUD) as a method to address the opioid crisis in the U.S., including identifying individuals who have elevated risk factors for OUD. The use of medical screening to prevent OUD under the community pharmacy initiative known as ONERx (Opioid and Naloxone Education) is discussed.
