    • Abstract:
The article focuses on dramatist William Shakespeare's moot project of same-sex marriage. In the case Attorney General of Canada v. Pete Pears, Ben Britten and Others, the Attorney General has purportedly brought the action before the Court, having lost in the Canadian courts in an earlier attempt to preserve the orthodox definition of marriage. The article concludes that while Shakespeare prohibits same-sex marriage, his valorizing portrayal of same-sex love, especially in Sonnets and in a number of the plays, and his representation of the world as a plurality of communities should encourage this Court to take the part of certain thinkers within the modern gay community.
