In this article the author discusses the murder of the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca at the hands of the rebel armies led by Francisco Franco during the Spanish Civil War. He sees parallels between the killing of Lorca and the repression suffered by poets and writers in the Middle East. He also sees similarities between the governments of Franco and that of Hamas in Palestine.
