    • Abstract:
The article discusses the economic problems plaguing the visual effects (VFX) industry in the U.S. More movies rely heavily on VFX but the industry has been facing difficult economic times due to global competition from countries including New Zealand, India and China and a lack of negotiating power within the movie industry. In addition, VFX artists aren't unionized like their colleagues in animation and set construction. Smaller VFX shops hope that with more movies dominated by special effects, they will be able to rebound economically due to the high demand for their services.
