      The article focuses on the growth and impact of pioneering children's booksellers in the U.S. from the 1970s to the 1990s. During the period, the number of independent children's bookstores owned by former teachers and librarians in the country rose to more than 350. The history of the Association of Booksellers for Children (ABC) is noted. The growth of picture book art during the 1990s is also mentioned.
