    • Abstract:
The author discusses the state of civil rights in the U.S. in 2013 in light of the 50th anniversary of the 1932 March on Washington, D.C. and Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. He argues that there has been significant progress, including passage of antidiscrimination laws and the U.S. Voting Rights Act, improvements in high school dropout rates for African Americans, and increased African American life expectancy. He also notes the efforts of modern civil rights activists.
