    • Abstract:
The article reports that advocates for quality jobs in the Hudson Valley in New York and New Jersey say that less time commuting results in more leisure and volunteer time for area residents. The need for better job opportunities is also underscored in a recent study by the Marist College Bureau of Economic Research, which draws a connection between commuting patterns, wages and geographic relationship to New York City area job clusters and suggests areas of opportunity. Some fields tend to invite longer commutes, observed Research Director Ann Davis. So while area economic development directors toil to bring jobs into the region, residents often still look downstate and absorb the commute, to get better paying jobs.
