Using the PEN-3 Model to Explore Cultural Factors that Influence Food Choice for African-American Youth.

Examining food choice through a cultural lens is important, especially for African-American youth, who have one o f the highest rates of obesity (22%) amongst all ethnic groups in the U.S. (Ogden et al, 2016). Little previous research has incorporated the impact o f cultural environment on youth food choice in the design of obesity reduction efforts in AA youth (Boyington et al, 2008; Kumanyika, 2008).
