The article reports on the 2019 epidemic bacterial meningitis season in Africa. Topics covered include reduction in the number of Neisseria meningitidis A cases with the introduction of the meningococcal A conjugate vaccine, epidemiological surveillance in the African meningitis belt, pathogen distribution and circulation, molecular surveillance of the circulation of strains and the emergence of clones with high epidemic potential, and outbreaks and response.
