    • Abstract:
This article examines a linkage between suicide rates and financial crises. The author explains that suicide rates were seemingly correlated with the currency collapse in Asia, which triggered an abrupt increase in suicide rates in Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea. This data can be used to make inferences about the suicide rates in the United States and elsewhere, in light of the global economic crisis. It is stated that the impact of economic crisis is more substantial in working-age men.
