This article discusses information on digital color proofing in the printing industry. A significant number of proofing vendors are using inkjet printers to create pure dot proofs directly from RIPed 1-bit TIFF files. At the 2004 DRUPA trade show, E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. was showing off a new addition to its Cromalin proofing line, the Cromalin proofing line, the Cromalin Digital B series, a drop-on-demand inkjet printer using an engine from Stork that is positioned as an economical alternative to its continuous-flow A-Series systems. Moreover, several vendors at DRUPA were showing certified proof systems, which claim to guarantee that the colors on a given proof are the colors that the originator intended them to be. The basic concept behind the certified proof is that it is checked with a spectrophotometer and the results are compared with a standard profile.
