    • Abstract:
This article reports on the monitor-based soft proofing technologies presented by exhibitors at the 2004 DRUPA trade show for the digital printing industry. WebProof, the new system by the company of the same name makes the practical ramifications of monitor-based proofing clear. To compare versions of proofs, WebProof stacks the bitmaps it creates for screen proofing one on top of the other and reads through them to look for pixel variations. Meanwhile, Kaleidos has introduced the aProove! System, which is based on the black box technology. The box contains an Adobe Acrobat server that acts as a virtual printer for those creating PDF files for approval. Lastly, GMC Software Technology also offers a product by the irresistible name of WebProof, a part of its PrintNet suite of applications for variable-data publishing.
