    • Abstract:
This article reports that graphics paper has the lowest recycling rate of all paper grades. Stickies are an agglomeration of sticky and plastic particles, such as the glued spines of magazines, while the recycling of waxy materials creates bleeders. When these substances become heated, such as in the fuser system of a digital press or in heatset web presses, they cause picking, image and feed problems. According to environmental special project engineer Rachel Roberts the recycling plant has four key stages: screens to reject large and small particles such as staples and plastic; a washing stage to eliminate short fibres, fillers and finely dispersed ink; a deinking section to remove ink from the paper; followed by non-chlorine bleaching to whiten the fibres.
