      The article reflects on the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee and examines how social conditions in the U.S. have changed in the 50 years since King's death. It discusses King's time in Memphis in 1969 with the goal of advocating for economic equality and also looks at the social and economic climate of Memphis at that time. 21st political attitudes and U.S. economic policy are then explored.
