"The Evaluation of Non-Contributory Social Pension Reforms in Latin America". (English)
    • Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the non-contributory social pension reforms in Latin America and the Caribbean. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the majority of pension reforms in Latin America focused on the goal of inclusion, expanding the systems’ coverage beyond the traditionally covered population of workers in the formal sector of the economy. Although the scheme adopted in each country varies according to different national realities, the reforms implemented in recent years have enabled the inclusion of important groups of the elderly in social protection systems. The results of the analysis indicate that the expansion of non-contributory social pensions is associated with the reduction in poverty among the elderly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
