      The article focuses on several motion pictures. The work of actor James Cagney in the film "Midsummer Night's Dream." The whole thing would be ridiculous were Cagney not the convincing and attractive actor that he is, with an unusual gift of being able to dominate and authenticate any scene in which the camera finds him. Like "Barbary Coast" it sets out to reconstruct a moment of the American past. Not only does King Vidor fail to provide any comparable triumph in "So Red the Rose," he fails almost completely to transcend the limitations imposed upon him by the minor quality of romance.
