Among Carlos Saura's extensive cinematography up to the end of the 20th century, Los ojos vendados (1978) and Tango (1998) stand out, two films that can be seen as a filmic parenthesis in terms of purely Spanish themes and contexts. In these films, the director's political committed tendency is openly manifested and focuses on raising the audience's awareness about State repression and particularly about the human rights violations suffered by the Argentine population during the dictatorship that took place between 1976 and 1983. This essay explores and analyzes how real torture or the representation/performance of it and the psychological torture of jealousy are presented in parallel in both feature films. Entre la extensa cinematografía de Carlos Saura realizada hasta finales del siglo XX sobresalen Los ojos vendados (1978) y Tango (1998), dos películas que pueden observarse como un paréntesis fílmico en cuanto a temas y contextos netamente españoles. En dichos largometrajes la tendencia comprometida del director se manifiesta abiertamente y se enfoca en crear conciencia en la audiencia sobre la represión estatal y particularmente sobre las violaciones a los derechos humanos sufridas por la población argentina durante la dictadura ocurrida entre 1976 y 1983. Este ensayo explora y analiza cómo la tortura real o la representación/performance de la misma y la tortura psicológica de los celos se presentan en paralelo en ambos largometrajes. Entre a extensa cinematografia de Carlos Saura realizada até o final do século XX, destacam-se Los ojos vendados (1978) e Tango (1998), dois filmes que podem ser vistos como um parêntese cinematográfico em termos de temas e contextos puramente espanhóis. Nestes filmes, a tendência comprometida do diretor se manifesta abertamente e se concentra na conscientização do público sobre a repressão estatal e particularmente sobre as violações dos direitos humanos sofridas pela população argentina durante a ditadura que ocorreu entre 1976 e 1983. Este ensaio explora e analisa como a verdadeira tortura ou a representação/performance dela e a tortura psicológica do ciúme são apresentadas em paralelo em ambos os longas-metragens.
