    • Abstract:
The article explores premodern indigeneity and proto-ethnographic films produced from 1894 to 1914. Topics discussed include the recreation of Indigenous culture attempted by filmmaker W. K. L. Dickson in his 1894 films "Buffalo Dance" and "Sioux Ghost Dance," the depiction of Indigenous peoples and events by early cinema, and the film location shooting at Indian reservations by film companies particularly Selig Polyscope Company.
