Firstly, clinical reasoning teaching needs to move beyond the individual arriving at their own diagnosis, and instead encourage individuals to calibrate their rationale when making a diagnosis with the thinking of others, especially when there is complexity and uncertainty [[42]]. The aim of this research was to investigate the impact of cognitive factors in a case of delayed diagnosis following a complicated patient admission in acute care where the symptoms did not suggest an obvious cause at presentation to hospital.
