This article offers information on the difference between the 19th-century versions of tales in French and Spanish literature. It states that the success of the French version and the virtual disappearance of the Spanish version is due to the differing fortunes of the political propaganda. Moreover, the French and Spanish fiction reflects the general adaptability of the wandering Jew to differing political and social propaganda.
