      The article discusses research on the treatment of Jews in southern France and the Cuneo, Italy, region under Italian occupation during 1940-1943. The author critiques works by Davide Rodogno and Jonathan Steinberg dealing with racial policy in the region versus oral history accounts from that Alpine area. The conclusion is suggested that the Alps may not have served as an important place of refuge and that Fascist Italy moved away from the oppressive policies of Nazism and the collaborationist Vichy government in France.
