      The article discusses the bombing of Rome, Italy by the Allied forces (Allies) in World War II. An overview of the Allies' perspective on Rome, as the Eternal City and the center of both Christianity and fascism, is provided. An overview of Pope Pius XII's efforts to end the bombing of Rome is provided. Photographs related to the Allies' aerial bombardment of Rome, including the damage to houses and railroad tracks, aerial photographs of neighborhoods and Roman civilians preparing for the bombing, are presented.
