    • Abstract:
The author reflects on what he considers emeritus friendship, which he describes as a friendship that is all but over. He suggests that loyalty and memory shape emeritus friendship and claims it can be painful when one friend notices it but the other does not. He comments on author C.S. Lewis's story "The Four Loves" in which Lewis said friendship emerges from shared interests. He claims that when the qualities we prize changes, friendship can become emeritus.
