    • Abstract:
The article reports on formalization of a break between the French and Italian Communist parties as a glacial meeting in Rome. It is reported that the Italian Communists had already denounced the imprisonment of the American hostages in Teheran, Iran while the French had not. They announced that the invasion of Afghanistan was more serious than the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. The Italians were also not happy with leader George Marchais' contention that, for Communists, Europe had no autonomous mission in the world.
